‡‡) “God is dead...”    an odd phrase, to ancient Roman ears,  & not terribly offensive to most, in sofar as an ancient Roman might reply, “which god?”  But some stick-up-the-arse Romans would regard it as a rudeness,  even if the comment was aimed at a god they did not particularly revere.
