‡)  Lit., “The Beard” = i.e., Basta!, Enough already!

NOTE: “La Barbe” is also the name of a proto-#TimesUp French Feminist collective started in Spring of 2008 (in the wake of Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s arrest in N.Y.C. for attempted rape & the perceived sexism of the French press's coverage), staging stage guerilla theatre, & appearing during official ceremonies or gatecrashing talkshows & corporate boardrooms, & reading parodies specifically prepared to match the particular occasion while wearing fake beards;  the attitudes of the Cannes Festival directors have kept the anger simmering,  even as recently as the 2023 Cannes Festival, the director’s comments about rape,  jocose comments in the inimitably insolent French manner caused an uproar…  He said that people were scandalised by Woody Allen & Roman Polanksi & Johnny Depp yet scrambled for screening tickets, that they cared more abt good seats than justice for rape victims...it wasn't quite what he said, but people decided to interpret it that way... ;

‡‡)  “Men let loose, women pay...” = a Feminist petition used to rouse women to the streets, after a series of sexual harassment & rape scandals, these demonstrations occurred all over France in Spring of 2012
