 ‡‡)  “Huachicol” / a.k.a. “gas theft”  —  “Huachicol” is a decades-old Mexican phenonenon whereby locals tap into PEMEX pipelines to steal gas-tank ready gas,  with hundreds or even thousands of people lining up with small or medium-sized plastic gas tanks or even buckets.  [PEMEX being the state-run petroleum co.]  This has gone from a smallish problem to an enormity of a $4 billion+/yr. racket,  for several years now controlled by drug cartels such as the Zetas,  wanting to diversify their portfolio,  so to speak.  These local & often well-organized & co-ordinated  “distribution”  points not only contaminate local farmland but have also resulted in horrible conflagrations where up to a couple of hundred people are killed when everything go boom.
