fri., 24 feb., sat., 25 feb., & sun., 26 feb., 2012: academy awards weekend soubriquets: give us This Day our Daily Curse

GREEK:  Ζορμπά — Zorbas ‡
ITALIAN:  Se questo e’ il nuovo libro di Umberto Eco, aspettero’ il film e saltero’ anche quello.  ‡‡
TAGALAG:   Puta Cleopatra!   ‡‡‡
TAGALAG:   jabba-hut   ‡‡‡‡

      )  “Zorba” /  “Zorbas” — to call a Greek “Zorba” (in ref. to either the Kazantzakis novel or the attendant movie featuring the eponymous Αλέξης Ζορμπάς Alexix Zorbás) is perhaps not the most flattering of soubriquets (probably okay for a relative or  friend — though these days a Greek would probably look at you a few seconds, & as the reference sunk in they might give you a “whatever-the-fuck” shrug)  ;
    ‡‡  ) “If that's the latest Umberto Eco book, I'll wait for the movie & skip that, too.” ;
  ‡‡‡  )  “Fucking stinking Cleopatra bitch!” — i.e., that fucking bitch may think she’s a sex goddess, but she stinks like “Cleopatra”! [arguably still the reigning Golden Turkey of  life-suckingly godawful box office flops ] ;
‡‡‡‡  )  “tubby” /  “chubby” — i.e., as fat & gormless & globular as the giant worm / talking turd alien blackmarketeering-czar in the Star Wars movies ;
